estranged

Two sisters sat together.
One married well.
The other lived her singular life alone.
They talked for
But a moment,
Parted ways as neither
Could understand the other.
A lesbian and her well-heeled Christian sister
Who sneered,
“Dad and Mom don’t approve.”
“Your money won’t buy me.
A marriage not for love, for social standing.”
The world passed by
A hostile bench.
That metal divider
May as well have been an abyss.
They never spoke again.
